Led by Dr. Gene Moon, Music Director of Love in Music (11-16-2025)
On Sunday evening, November 16, 2025, Love in Music hosted its Fall Volunteer Training Seminar via Zoom, bringing together student volunteers from our Los Angeles, Santa Ana, and South Bay branches for a program-wide gathering led by our new Music Director, Dr. Gene Moon.
This marked Dr. Moon’s first official training session with our volunteer team since assuming his role in September 2025. Nearly three-quarters of our active teaching volunteers joined the live session, with additional volunteers viewing the recording afterward to ensure full participation across all branches. Following are the major points discussed at this training seminar.
Strengthening Our Identity as Teachers
The central theme of the evening was: “Volunteer Identity = Teacher Identity.”
Dr. Moon spoke about the responsibility that comes with serving as a music teacher — regardless of age — and emphasized:
- Professional conduct inside and outside the classroom
- Respect for partner-site property and staff
- Clear boundaries during transitions and break times
- Modeling maturity and leadership for younger students
As a youth-led organization serving children from diverse communities, Love in Music places high value on character development alongside musical instruction. The seminar reinforced that our volunteers are not simply high school or college students fulfilling service hours — they are role models entrusted with shaping young learners. The November 16 seminar served as a meaningful opportunity to reaffirm shared expectations and strengthen program-wide standards across all branches.
Looking Ahead
In addition to discussing professional conduct, Dr. Moon shared his artistic vision for the upcoming 2026 Annual Concert and encouraged volunteers to deepen their engagement not only as teachers but as musicians. Volunteers were invited to submit written reflections through a feedback form to support future planning and strengthen internal communication across branches.
Building Harmony Beyond Music
For 19 years, Love in Music has provided free classical music education to children from diverse cultural backgrounds. Our volunteers remain the backbone of this mission. Moments like this remind us that growth, accountability, and leadership are part of the musical journey. We look forward to continuing to build harmony — not only in sound, but in character, community, and collaboration.
