December 21, 2024

On Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 10 a.m., Love in Music’s South Bay Branch hosted its Winter Concert at Elim Café of Torrance First Presbyterian Church. The event brought together approximately 85 attendees, who celebrated the holiday season with a heartwarming morning of music, culture, and community.

The concert featured performances by both students and teachers, showcasing their hard work and progress in violin, piano, clarinet and flute. Following the program, attendees enjoyed a festive potluck party hosted by the parents of our volunteers and students. The potluck reflected the spirit of togetherness, with delicious dishes shared by members of the Korean, Chinese, Hispanic, and Indian communities.

A Celebration of Diversity:

What made this year’s concert truly unique was the special part of the program, titled “Cultural Highlights,” which celebrated the beauty of diversity within the Love in Music family.

Students from the Indian community performed vibrant traditional dances and an instrumental piece on the Veena, a classical Indian instrument reminiscent of Korea’s Gayageum. Their stunning traditional attire and passionate performances captivated the audience.

The program continued with a Guatemalan parent and her two children—violin and piano students—sharing a heartfelt Guatemalan folk song. A Salvadoran family followed with a beautiful traditional dance performed by Ariana, a violin student, and her father, while her mother proudly held the national flag of El Salvador.

Adding to the cultural showcase, Ana Cruz, a parent from Honduras, sang her country’s national anthem accompanied by her two daughters in traditional costumes. The program concluded with Korean-American teachers sharing Korea’s national flag, proudly held by their students, adding a meaningful touch to the celebration.

This event exemplified the mission of Love in Music: to unite diverse communities through music, fostering a sense of harmony, understanding, and belonging.

A heartfelt thank you to all the students, parents, volunteers, and community members who made this day so special. Your passion and support continue to inspire us to build a more harmonious and loving community through music.
