Joelle Kim (Flute) – Santa Ana Branch
Arnold Beckman High School (Class of 2024)
Throughout the past two years in Love in Music, as a flute teacher and support coordinator, I have witnessed how music could connect high school students and younger students who were receiving classical music instruction for the first time.
I’ve enjoyed seeing students’ excitement and improvement in learning their instruments, and I have learned so much through teaching flute to others. It has been such a rewarding experience to plan and host concerts to celebrate students’ hard work, and I have come to value all of the work that goes on behind the scenes as a support coordinator. It has been a privilege getting to know and work alongside the other teachers and students.
Through teaching others, I’ve realized that music is more than a way to express myself – it’s a way to serve the community and help others discover their passions in the same way that music has helped me discover mine. Sharing the joy of classical music with others who otherwise wouldn’t have this exposure has been incredibly fulfilling and is something that I hope to continue to do. Thank you, Love in Music, for providing this valuable space for us to teach and learn.
