Audrey Kim (Violin) – South Bay Branch
West High School (Class of 2022)
The violin has played a significant role in my life, as I have been learning and performing on the instrument for over ten years. My journey would not have been possible without the support of my teachers, who have guided me in everything from music theory to performance etiquette. Early on, I realized that a teacher profoundly shapes a student’s growth. A great teacher does more than simply instruct—they inspire their students and provide positive reinforcement throughout the learning process.
I am grateful to have been taught by confident, optimistic women who made it clear that they believed in their students. During moments of personal doubt, they reminded me that mistakes were an essential part of growth. Rather than reprimanding me for errors, they encouraged me to learn from them and move forward.
Through my experience as a violin teacher at Love in Music, I found myself applying the same teaching methods and lessons that I had once received as a student. When teaching the children at Love in Music, I often place myself in my teachers’ shoes and consider what would best support a student’s learning. Every Saturday, I hope to inspire my students just as I was once inspired—to foster a connection that will motivate them to persevere in their musical journey.
