Andrew Lim (Trumpet) – Santa Ana Branch
University High School (Class of 2023)
I distinctly remember my first time being introduced to the Love in Music community. It was years ago, when I was still a student at Rancho Middle School learning how to play the trumpet. As my older brother Eric served as a Cello teacher and my Mother Hyesoo served as a dutiful parent-member, I became a witness to the expansive community that Love In Music built for musical devotees in the Orange County area. From the second that I stepped foot in the building, I felt uniquely welcomed in the purpose that Love in Music intended to serve: Providing musical education and general mentorship to those in underserved areas of Orange County.
Being a longtime member of Love in Music has provided me with unprecedented opportunities for personal growth and interpersonal development. The relationships that I was able to formulate with fellow volunteers, students, and administrative staff have taught me invaluable lessons that I will carry with me for years to come. I will never forget the pure joy and pride that I felt week after week as I saw the smiles on my students’ faces while they learned to develop a love for the music that we all share in our community. Knowing that my efforts contributed towards assisting the development of the next generation’s love for music makes me inexplicably proud to call myself a member of Love in Music.
I am forever grateful to the Love in Music community, particularly Mrs. Gloria Lee and our partners at KidsWork Santa Ana, for the countless opportunities that they’ve provided for students and volunteers alike. It is my firm belief that the continual success of Love in Music is hinged upon the valiant leadership from its core members. The tight-knit group of parents, donors, administrators, and partners have cultivated a path of immense growth and success for young students and teachers like me. In the years to come, Love in Music will always hold a special place in my heart. The ability to assist those who are underserved in our community while simultaneously gaining valuable life-long skills is a once in a lifetime opportunity. So, thank you Love In Music and all those that I had the pleasure of sharing these past four years with!!
