A legacy of volunteerism, resilience, and music that continues to inspire across generations
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who enthusiastically joined the November 10, 2012 volunteer meeting. It was both an inspiring and thought-provoking gathering, highlighted by the powerful testimony of Mrs. Minja Kwak.
Mrs. Kwak shared her remarkable journey as a music (violin) volunteer in Korea over 40 years ago. During a time in the late 1960s when children with disabilities were often unable to access education, she reached out to a group of under-served children at a rehab center in Taejon. Despite limited resources and significant challenges, her unwavering dedication created lasting change.
One of the many lives touched by her efforts is Dr. Inhong Cha, now a distinguished faculty member and violinist at Wright State University in Ohio. Encouraged by Mrs. Kwak during a difficult period in his youth, he pursued his passion for music and never gave up on his dreams. Today, his journey stands as a testament to the profound impact a single act of volunteerism can have. We are honored to announce that Dr. Cha is scheduled to perform at the Love in Music 2013 Concert, tentatively set for September 21, 2013.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to Professor Daniel Yoonjae Park, who has graciously accepted the role of Education and Music Director of Love in Music as of November 2012. His commitment to mentoring and guiding volunteers, even dedicating Sunday afternoons each month, reflects the spirit that drives our mission forward.
At the same time, we share our deep gratitude for Pastor and Dr. Jinshik Chung, whose dedication and leadership have been invaluable. Following a board decision on November 9, 2012, he will be stepping back from the demanding responsibilities of Education and Music Director to focus on his expanding roles, including Student Dean at Methodist Theological Seminary, Music Director of a high school orchestra in Los Angeles, Associate Pastor at L.A. Dongsan Church, and Director of the L.A. Korean Youth Orchestra. We are hopeful and grateful that he will continue to serve as a guiding presence within Love in Music.
Together, these stories remind us that music is more than performance—it is a bridge of hope, a source of resilience, and a gift that continues to transform lives.
