A Retired Teacher and Violinist helping a total beginner student
(Jan-Mar 2026)
At our Love in Music – South Bay Branch, we recently had the privilege of welcoming a very special volunteer. Mr. Jim Parkman, a retired teacher and violinist, joined our program earlier this year and generously offered violin lessons to one of our youngest students who is just beginning his musical journey.
At 87 years old, Mr. Parkman continues to share his love of music with patience, kindness, and a true teacher’s heart. Watching him guide a young beginner through the very first steps of violin playing was a beautiful reminder that the spirit of teaching and giving never grows old.
Although his time with us this semester will be brief due to personal circumstances until the end of March 2026, we are deeply grateful for the inspiration he has brought to our students and volunteers. Moments like this reflect what Love in Music is all about — sharing music, mentorship, and encouragement across generations.
Thank you, Mr. Parkman, for being part of the Love in Music family during the past two months!!

Mr. Parkman is giving violin lesson for our new student – Maximo, a K-1 (1st grade) student who recently joined us with a violin he got as a Christmas gift last year.

Mr. Parkman was so pleased with his student – Maximo who showed a great potential to be a good learner/player.
